Neil Roberts is Head of Marine and Aviation for the Lloyd’s Market Association and looks after the marine market’s sector committees, including the Joint War Committee which issues the advisory Listed Areas to insurers. He has worked in the London insurance market since 1985 and gained underwriting experience in a range of marine disciplines as well as claims handling before joining the LMA.
During the piracy emergency, he helped with the formulation of BMP 1-4 and was part of the industry’s liaison with Northwood PJHQ. He was closely involved with the drafting of the market’s widely used sanctions clause, has written several articles on the efficacy of sanctions and has testified to UK parliamentary select committees.
He also acts as insurance market liaison with the wider maritime services community, at both commercial and government levels, on technical, trade and maritime security issues. On the international front, he chairs the International Union of Marine Insurance (IUMI) Policy Forum.
