Ambassador of Canada to the Hellenic Republic and High Commissioner to Cyprus

Anna-Karine Asselin (LLL [Civil Law], University of Ottawa, 1990; Barreau du Québec [Quebec Bar], 1991) worked in private practice prior to joining External Affairs and International Trade Canada in 1994. In Ottawa, Ms. Asselin served in the Legal Bureau twice, from 1995-1998 and from 2002-2004 in the UN Legal operations division, as well as in the Criminal and Treaty Law Division. At the Privy Council Office, she served in the Machinery of Government Secretariat from 1998 to 2001. Ms. Asselin was posted at Canada’s Delegation to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe in Vienna as Counsellor and program manager (politico-military) from 2004 to 2008. Upon return, Ms. Asselin held management assignments including as Deputy Director (Inter-American Relations Division). Ms. Asselin served as Minister-counsellor in Brazil from 2011-2015 and was subsequently appointed as Canada's Ambassador to the Republic of Panama from 2015-2018. Ms. Asselin served as Executive Director for Canada's UN Security Council Campaign (2018-2020) and as Director General for Consular Policy (2020-2022). In 2022, she was appointed as Canada’s Ambassador to the Hellenic Republic and High Commissioner to the Republic of Cyprus.
