Ioannis Stefanou is Partner & Head of Energy Sector of Grant Thornton Greece and brings more than 15 years of international experience. He holds a Diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Technical University of Patras and a 2-year MSc in Sustainable Energy Technologies from Delft University of Technology.
 
During his professional career he has gained a profound understanding of the EU Energy Acquis, wholesale and retail gas markets, regulation of transmission and distribution networks, as well as EU policies on energy transition. Ioannis has implemented numerous projects related to the development of policy and regulatory frameworks, energy market reforms and liberalization, development of niche business strategies and models for large corporates. He focuses on electricity and gas sectors, as well as energy transition technologies like hydrogen, storage and offshore wind.
 
In the context of his assignments, he has supported all major energy utilities in Greece on regulatory affairs and strategy formulation, as well as on the development of innovative business models. Ioannis has also worked for reputable European Institutions like the European Commission (DG ENER, DG CLIMA), ACER, World Bank (WB) and International Finance Corporation (IFC), the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). He has also offered advisory services to institutional clients including Ministries, Energy Regulators, Transmission and Distribution System Operators and Energy Exchanges in Greece and various EU countries.
 
Finally, he has been one of the leading experts on the preparation of the Greek Recovery and Resilience Plan, responsible for the Green Transition Pillar and largely involved in its implementation.
