Jean-Michel Blanquer holds a doctorate in law from the University of Panthéon-Assas and a master’s degree in Politics from the Institute of Political Studies in Paris (Sciences Po). Between 1989 and 1991, Jean-Michel Blanquer was a cooperating researcher at the French Institute of Andean Studies in Bogota, Colombia. From 1992 to 1994, he was a temporary teaching and research associate at the University of Panthéon-Assas, and then a Lecturer of Public Law at the University of François-Rabelais in Tours. In 1996, he became a Professor of Public Law at the Institute of Political Studies in Lille. From 1996 to 1998, he was also a Professor at the University of Lille-II. In 1998, he was appointed Director of the Institut des hautes études de l’Amérique latine (IHEAL) at the University of Paris Ill Sorbonne-Nouvelle. In 2004, he became Rector of the French Guiana Academy. In 2006, he joined the cabinet of the Minister of National Education, Higher Education and Research, as Deputy Director. In March 2007, he took up the post of Rector of the Créteil academy. Between 2009 and 2012, he was appointed Director General of School Education (DGESCO) at the Ministry of National Education and then Director General of the ESSEC group (from 2023 to 2017). Minister of National Education, Youth and Sports, French Republic, from May 2017 to May 2022.
He joined the law faculty of The Paris-Panthéon-Assas University in 2022 as professor of public law.
Jean-Michel Blanquer is currently President of the think tank “Le Laboratoire de la République” dedicated to democratic and republican values against extremism. He is also president of “Terra Academia” a network of campuses dedicated to ecological transformation.
