Nikos Tachiaos was born in Thessaloniki in February 1962. He is married and has one son. He graduated from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and is a qualified agronomist and surveying engineer, with working experience as a freelance professional. He speaks English, French and German. For five consecutive four-year terms, from 1987 through 2006, when he decided to retire, he was elected city councilor of Thessaloniki. From July 2007 through October 2009, he served as Deputy Secretary General for International Economic Relations & Development Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 2004 to 2010 he was a member of the Management Committee of the Technical Chamber of Greece. From September 2019 to June 2023, he served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Εlliniko (former Attiko) Metro S.A. Since June 2023, he has been Deputy Minister of Infrastructure & Transport, responsible for infrastructure issues, in the government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis. During the course of his career he has gained extensive experience in public administration, public contracts for studies and projects, spatial planning, environmental issues, property and land values.
