Alkiviadis Stefanis embarked on a distinguished military career following his admission to the Hellenic Military Academy (Evelpidon) in 1978. Rising through the ranks, he served in various capacities including Platoon Commander, Medium Tank Company Commander, and instructor at the Hellenic Military Academy. Notable appointments include serving as Commander of the Reserve’s Officers Company, attending the US Army Armored Advanced Course at Fort Knox, and commanding the 98th National Guard Tank Battalion. He also held diplomatic roles such as Aide-de-Camp to the President of the Hellenic Republic and Operations Officer at the Greek Military Delegation, NATO Headquarters, Brussels.
Transitioning to strategic planning and leadership positions, Stefanis served as Director of the Evolution Bureau of the Hellenic National Defense General Staff and Chief of Staff to the XXIII Armored Brigade. He furthered his academic pursuits by graduating with distinction from the National Defense University in Washington, D.C. with a master's degree in Security Strategies.
Throughout his career, Stefanis exhibited exceptional leadership and dedication, culminating in his appointment as Chief of the Hellenic Army.
Civilian and Governmental Roles:
In addition to his military career, Stefanis made significant contributions in civilian and governmental roles. He served as Deputy Minister of National Defense (2019-2021) and later as Minister of National Defense in the interim government (2023), overseeing crucial defense policies and operations.
Following his tenure as Deputy Minister of National Defense, Stefanis assumed advisory duties to the Hellenic Government on Frontiers and Mount Athos, leveraging his strategic insights for the benefit of the nation.
