Platon Tinios, is an economist, Professor at the Department of Statistics and Insurance Science of the University of Piraeus. He studied economics at the Universities of Cambridge (MA, Ph.D) and Oxford (M.Phil). He served as Special Advisor to the Prime Minister of Greece from 1996 to 2004, specializing in the economic analysis of social policy and pensions, during which time he was a member of the EU Social Protection Committee and Ageing Working Group. He has been deputy Country Team Leader for Greece for the Survey of Health Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE) since 2002. His primary research interest is in the study of empirical and policy aspects of ageing and longevity, social policy, labour economics, insurance economics with a particular focus in pension reform, long term care and gender. He is the author of books and scientific articles in English and in Greek.
