Professor Joachim Gryspolakis was born in Athens, Greece, he graduated from Varvakion School in 1965 and from the Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki with a Bachelor degree in Mathematics in 1970. He started graduate studies at the University of Houston and was awarded a M.Sc. and a PhD in Mathematics from Wayne State University in Michigan in 1976. He has taught in several universities in USA and Canada from 1973 until 1995, he has served as professor at the Technical University of Crete until 2014 and as vice rector and rector from 1999 until 2010. Since 2014 he is a professor emeritus of the Technical University of Crete.
He is the author of more than 40 research papers in Mathematics and he has been invited to offer lectures in conferences and several universities and academies of sciences in abroad.
He has been a member of committees for elaborating laws on Higher Education in 1992, 2007 and 2010. Currently he is the president of the Board of the Archaeological Museum of Herakleion, the ark of the Minoan Civilization.
He is the author and coauthor of hundreds of articles on how to reform the higher education in Greece.
