Phd, Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist

Konstantinos Siomos is a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist with a doctoral degree from the Medical School of the University of Thessaly on the subject: “Addiction of adolescents to Computers and the Internet: Psychiatric symptoms and sleep disorders”. He holds a Masters degree from the Medical School of the University of Ioannina in ‘Social Psychiatry - Child & Adolescent Psychiatry’. He was responsible for the planning and organization of the, first in Greece, specialized outpatient service for Internet addiction, at the ‘Hippokration’ General Hospital of Thessaloniki from September 2008 to April 2010.
Furthermore, he organized the operation of a special psychiatric outpatient service for addiction to electronic games (GAMING DISORDER) at the Department of Psychiatry of the University of Thessaly in January 2019, continuing to oversee its operations up to the present day.
 
In 2008 and 2011, Dr Siomos received an honorary invitation of the Standing Committee on Research and Technology and the Standing Committee on Equality, Youth and Human Rights of the Hellenic Parliament respectively, as a renowned researcher in the field, and participated in their proceedings, submitting the data of his investigations on adolescent Internet addiction as well as proposals for the design of a National policy for prevention of the dangers associated with the advent of new technological advancements for youth. He has over 30 publications in International peer-reviewed scientific journals and numerous announcements in International and local scientific conferences. He teaches the course of Child Psychiatry at the Medical School of the University of Thessaly from 2021. He also provides teaching work from September 2016 to the present day in five Masters of Science programs run by the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the University of Thessaly. He is a founding member and President of the Hellenic Association for the Study of Internet Addiction Disorder. Since the establishment of the Association in November 2008, he has participated in more than 500 public briefings and educational activities addressed to health and education professionals regarding the phenomenon of Internet Addiction in Greece and Cyprus. He has also presided over the Organizing Committee for the five International Conferences of the Hellenic Association for the Study of Internet Addiction Disorder. He edited the publication of three collective works on the topics of a) Research-prevention-treatment of the risks in the use of the internet (2011), b) Internet addiction and other high-risk online behaviors (Livani publications 2012) and c) Benefits and risks in the use of Internet (2013). Dr. Konstantinos Siomos currently provides clinical work as a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist in the cities of Athens, Larissa and Karditsa.
