He was born in 1961, Peristeri, Attica. He is a graduate of the Athens Ecclesiastical School (1980-1983) and the Theological School of the University of Athens-Department of Theology (1983-1987).
He was made deacon in 1988 and received a scholarship from the Roman Catholic Church (Catholic Committee for Cultural Collaboration) for his Postgraduate Studies in Rome (Pontificio Instituto Orientale and Pontificio Universita Gregoriana, 1988-1990). At the same time, he attended courses in Greek Paleography and Diplomacy, at the “Scuola di Paleografia Diplomatica e Archivistica” of the Vatican City State.
During the years 1990-1991, as a fellow of the Roman Catholic Church again, he attended the third cycle of postgraduate studies (Doctorate) at the University of Strasbourg (Faculte de Theologie Catholique). He was ordained Elder in November 1990 and raised to the rank of Archimandrite. He was elected Lecturer of the Department of Theology, Theological School of Athens in June 1999, and then, Professor in July, 2007. He was elected Metropolitan of Messinia in 2007. He was the President of the Department of Theology, Theological School of Athens, from 2013 to 2015.
During the years 1995-1998 he served as Secretary in the “Synodal Committee of the Relations Office of the Church of Greece with the European Union” and in the “Synodal Committee for the Monitoring the European Affairs”, of the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece (1998-1999).
Full member of the “Synodal Committee on Dogmatic and Canonical Issues”, the “Synodal Committee on Inter-Orthodox and Inter-Christian Relations”, the “Special Synodal Committee for in Monitoring European Affairs” of the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece. Member of the Board of Directors of the “Inter-Orthodox Center of the Church of Greece”.
Member of the Representation of the Church of Greece in the “Official Theological Dialogue between the Orthodox and Roman-Catholic Church” and the three-member Representation of the Church of Greece in the Standing and Plenary Committee of the “Faith and Order” - Department of the World Council of Churches (WCC).
