MPP Babikian was elected in 2018 as Member of the Ontario Provincial Parliament for the riding of Scarborough-Agincourt. He also serves as the Vice-Chair of Standing Committee of the Government agencies. He served as Canadian Citizenship Judge from 2009 -2015. He tabled Private Member Bill 97 to recognize the Pontian Genocide in Ontario.
For thirty-six years Aris Babikian has been actively involved in the Canadian - political, social, multicultural, human rights, educational, and cultural, spheres.
For decades, Babikian has advocated the recognition, commemoration, memorialization, redress, and education of numerous human rights violations, crimes against humanity, and genocides. He has collaborated with many Canadian organizations, educational institutions, scholars, various levels of government, and victim groups to uphold justice and to bring healing to victims.

For the past forty years, he had close working relations with the Greek and Cypriot communities in Canada. He has also collaborated with them to stop the sale of Candu Reactor to Turkey. In addition, he has worked on many other projects of interest to Greek, Cypriot, and Armenian communities.
He was instrumental in the Canadian Parliament and Government recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
Furthermore, he played an active role in the recognition of Genocide by the Provinces of Ontario and British Columbia. In addition, he was influential in the introduction of the Toronto District School Board’s Grade 11 CHG38M (Genocide: Historical and Contemporary Implications) course.
Furthermore, his experience includes:

• President, Canadian Armenian National Federation
• Board member of the Armenian National Committee of Canada
• International elections monitor representing the Organization for Security and Co-operation in
Europe for the 2003 parliamentary elections in Armenia
• Human rights activist. Participated in the National (Canadian) Umbrella Organizations’ roundtable on the UN World Conference Against Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia, and Related Intolerance AWARDS
• Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal
• National Ethnic Press and Media Council Human Rights/Social Justice Award
• Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal
• Ontario Volunteer Service Award (25 years of service)
• Ministry of Diaspora (Republic of Armenia) Gold Medal
• International Coordinating Committee – Justice for Cyprus (PSEKA)
• The Canadian Ethnocultural Council’s Citation of Outstanding Services

• Armenian Prelacy of Canada Lifetime Achievement Award
