Emmanouela Myrtaki is a young Architect Engineer and Candidate for MSc “Architecture, Urbanism and Building Sciences” at Delft University of Technology (Track: Building Technology). She graduated from School of Architecture at Aristotle University in Thessaloniki in 2022, as the valedictorian of her class. During her studies, she gained a particular interest in sustainability, environmental design, restoration and transformation of historic structures and integration of contemporary architectural elements into heritage environments. The topics of her research and design thesis involved sustainability, biomimicry, preservation, restoration, and reuse of historic buildings. During her academic journey, she actively engaged in two International Student Workshops: the «S.O.S. Waterfront Climate Change» and the «HERSUS: C2 Student Workshop 1: Sustainable Reconstruction in Urban Area». After a contest was run by the research team of “HERSUS” from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, she was chosen to receive one out of the three scholarships in order to participate in the aforementioned first international intensive workshop, in Venice, Italy (22-26 November 2021).
Her Diploma Design Thesis, titled “Agricultural Innovation Park of Epirus: Redesigning and Reusing the former Agricultural Research Station of Ioannina” was a team-effort towards sustainable design. This project won high distinctions in the context of HERSUS- Enhancing of Heritage Awareness and Sustainability of Built Environment in Architectural and Urban Design Higher Education: “SHORTLISTED”: Hersus Prize on Modern Heritage on the category Education–Students. The HERSUS Prize awards best practices in Europe on sustainability and cultural heritage in architectural and urban design. These experiences ignited her passion for becoming a sustainable designer and laid a strong foundation, motivating her to pursue the MSc programme: “Architecture, Urbanism and Building Sciences at TU Delft.
Furthermore, Emmanouela Myrtaki voluntarily participated in various activities of the Department of Architectural Engineering such as Architecture Conferences support. During the academic year 2018-19, she was a member of the university student group which supported the public scientific lectures that were held for the department weekly. She actively participated in the workshop conducted as part of the anniversary Scientific Congress hosted by the Polytechnic School of Aristotle University, themed "PROTECTION, PRESERVATION, AND RESTORATION OF CULTURAL MONUMENTS - 20 YEARS Post Graduate Course Programme," from November 21st to 23rd, 2019.
After graduation, she worked as a Junior Architect at an architectural practice located in Athens, Greece, that focuses on high end hospitality and residential projects. She was an active participant in architectural planning processes, construction drawings, hotel design, and building permits. She has a particular interest in Building Technology and she integrates architecture and engineering as a unit.
