Domna Michailidou is an elected politician and academic economist. She was born and raised in Piraeus and studied Economics in the United Kingdom. She studied at the University of Cambridge from where she holds an MPhil and a PhD on Financial and Development Economics. She worked as a Lecturer at the Universities of Cambridge and UCL, as a consultant to government agencies in countries such as Brazil, Iran, Uganda, France and to Organizations such as the UN, the OECD and the British Council.
After 11 years abroad, she returned to Greece as an economist for the OECD Competition Toolkit and from 2017 she assumed the position of reforms’ advisor to the President of the New Democracy, Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
In 2019, she became the youngest member of the Government at the age of 31. As Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, she assumed the portfolio of Welfare and Social Solidarity. She established and implemented active inclusion policies for vulnerable groups, emphasizing child protection, pre-school education, deinstitutionalization, independent living for people with disabilities and protection of the elderly.
In the elections of May 21, 2023, she was elected as a Member of Parliament in the District of Piraeus and the Islands.
In the elections of June 25, 2023, she was appointed Deputy Minister of Education, Religion and Sports, responsible for primary and secondary education, including special education and the operation of vocational high schools. Throughout her tenure, she contributed significantly to the planning and implementation of a strategy to prevent and reduce school violence and school bullying.
From January 4, 2024, she serves the Hellenic Government as Minister of Labour and Social Security.
