Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Greece

Theodoros Rousopoulos is the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

He is also Greek Member of Parliament for New Democracy, elected in the Northern Electoral sector of the 2nd District of Athens. Being active on European affairs, Theodoros was the Chairman of the Committee on Migration, Refugees and Displaced Persons of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, as well as the Vice-President of the European People's Party in the Council of Europe.

In Greece, Theodoros serves as a Member of the Standing Committee on National Defense and Foreign Affairs, the Special Permanent Committee on Environmental Protection and the Standing Committee on Social Affairs and the Special Committee on Armaments Programs and Contracts.

Theodoros studied in Journalism & Communication as well as in Culture & Civilization. He holds a PhD in History from the University of Edinburgh. 

Since 2000, Theodoros has served as Member of the Greek Parliament, occupying important positions, including as Minister of State, and Government’s Spokesperson (2004-2008)

Prior to politics, Theodoros followed a career of 20 years in journalism for prominent Greek newspapers, radios and TV stations. Being a pioneer of journalism in the country, he was the founding executive of the first nation-wide private radio station (Athens 9.84) and the first private TV station (Mega) in Greece.

In academia, Theodoros has been a visiting Professor at University of Athens in Political Science (1997-1999). Since 2015 he is an Adjunct Professor of Communication at the European University of Cyprus. Theodoros served as Distinguished Guest, Speaker and Lecturer for Pepperdine Graziadio Business School’s Executive Programs Global Business Intensive classes for over years.

Throughout his academic career, Theodoros has published dozens of articles and books on various fields, ranging from media freedom in the digital age to the social implications of ethnic identities. 

Theodoros Rousopoulos is married to the journalist Mara Zacharea and he is father of two children, Vassilis and Anna.
