Aleksander Pociej is a Polish lawyer, politician and defender of human rights. With a rich career spanning practice in Warsaw, Paris and New York, he has garnered extensive experience and expertise in legal matters. He served as a Senator in the Polish Parliament for 12 years.
During his tenure in the Upper Chamber of the Polish Parliament, he spearheaded the Human Rights, Rule of Law and Petition Committee. His unwavering dedication to upholding civil liberties and promoting transparency in legislative processes marked his efforts between 2011 and 2023.
From 2016 to 2023, he represented Poland in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, actively engaging in the Committee on Migration, Refugees, and Displaced Persons. Additionally, he contributed his legal acumen to the Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights, the Committee on the Election of Judges to the European Court of Human Rights and others. He led numerous election observation missions across Europe.
Aleksander Pociej represented the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe at the Council for Democratic Elections, demonstrating his commitment to fostering democratic practices globally.
He served as the Chair of the EPP/CD Group in the PACE from 2018 to 2024.
Currently, he is the expert of foreign affairs in the Polish Parliament.
