Vasilis Trigkas is a Visiting Assistant Professor at Schwarzman College, Tsinghua University, and an elected member of the Council of International Relations Greece. He is the co-author with Athanasios Platias of “Parallel Lives: Themistocles, Deng Xiaoping and the Rise of Great Powers” (Forthcoming, Hurst Publishers / Oxford University Press). Vasilis research and teaching focus on three main areas: Strategic Studies and Leadership, with a particular interest in Chinese and Greek classics; International Security & Chinese Grand Strategy, emphasizing Geoeconomics; and the Triangular Relations between China, the US, and the EU. 

 

Vasilis has previously served as a Research Fellow at Tsinghua's Belt & Road Strategy Institute, a Visiting Scholar at Columbia University's European Institute, and a Non-Resident Handa Fellow & Young Leader at the Pacific Forum CSIS. Notably, at Tsinghua, he spearheaded the initiative to establish an endowed visiting chair on Hellenic and European Studies, a contribution to Sino-EU people-to-people exchanges recognized by the European Commissioner for Research & Innovation.

 

A widely published author, Vasilis works have been featured in various academic journals and media outlets, including the Journal of Contemporary China, the Chinese Journal of International Politics, Global Policy Journal, Political Science Quarterly, the Diplomat, and the South China Morning Post, among others. His contributions also appear in edited volumes published by Bristol University Press, Springer, and Emerald. His academic journey spans economics studies in Greece and the UK, culminating in a PhD in Political Science from Tsinghua University as an Onassis Scholar.
